The HIPPO International English Language Olympiad has, for several years, brought together thousands of students from dozens of countries. Founded in 2012, the competition set itself the goal of developing English proficiency, promoting communication skills, and giving learners the opportunity to test their abilities on the global stage.
It is organized by educational institutions from several European countries in cooperation with the Global Hippo Association. The Olympiad’s mission is to foster the study of English and to help students build skills for international communication. Open to learners aged 6–19, the competition is usually held in three stages:
Preliminary Round – online or hosted in schools and regional centers,
Semi-final Round,
Grand Final, traditionally held in Italy, bringing together the best students from around the world.
Each year, the Olympiad gathers participants from more than 50 countries under one roof. And we are proud to note that among Armenia’s three representatives this year, the only one who qualified directly for the Grand Final is a student of “Usum” School. Emili Poghosyan-Sargsyan, a 6th grader, will be competing in Italy from September 29 to October 1, where she is expected to make her mark.
Emili’s English teacher, A. Ghukasyan, is confident that students never reach the finals by chance, and she strongly believes that the young “Usum” student will not be satisfied with simply making it to the Grand Final, but will also prove herself on that prestigious stage.
It should also be noted that this is not the first time “Usum” students have taken part in this prestigious competition. Back in the 2022–2023 academic year, another “Usum” student Levon Hakobyan managed to achieve the highest result at the Grand Final.
